The Most Expensive Alarm Clock
Today I am going to talk about the weirdest man on earth that I married.
About a decade ago, my husband read something like this “If you want to be successful, you need to get up early in the morning.''. He took that advice seriously because he REALLY wanted to be successful and he made a commitment to get up early from that day onward. His success was important to me too. When I was a young woman I really wanted to find a successful MAN!. I couldn’t find a man who was ALREADY successful, but my husband WANTED to be successful so I decided--- I will TAKE! what I can get.
He has tried many approaches throughout the years to force himself to get up early. With various degrees of success, for example:
Method number 1: He bought an alarm clock and set multiple alarms - one after another. It worked for a while. Then, he started doing what most of us would do. He hit the snooze button and went back to sleep.
Method number 2. This time, he placed the alarm clock far away from his bed. Genius, right? This technique also worked for a while but he didn’t like it because he had to get up to turn it off.
Several months later, this genius discovered his third method. He found a magic tool, a new design for an alarm clock that was developed by MIT’s research lab. It’s a running alarm clock. Picture a clock with 2 wheels that can scream, jump, and make loud noises. It works like this, before going to bed, you put it on your bed or on the table next to you and when the alarm rings, it jumps off the bed and starts running and screaming. So, you have to run after it to switch it off. It worked well at first but eventually just like before he’d wake up, run after it to turn it off and go back to sleep.
All these years, he has been working so hard to get up early. However, he has never been successful. Now I am not sure whether he is a failed genius or just weird.
One night several months ago, he tapped on my shoulder and said, hey honey, I think I found an alarm clock that works for me. He calls it the Human Artificial Intelligence alarm clock. I call it our first child, Devi. Usually, she wakes up at 5am every day. This alarm clock can adjust her own volume. No, you cannot switch the button off and go back to sleep. My husband should be VERY successful soon.
If you have a goal and it doesn’t work out, get creative, be open to trying different approaches and be WEIRD like my husband. By the way, we realize our daughter, Devi, will grow older and she might not wake up early anymore. So I guess we will have to keep having babies so that we will always be successful. I am sure one day, you will also find a solution to help you reach YOUR goals. The right solution may even find YOU!
